Gaza Strip: Egypt and UN Discuss Crisis

According to a statement from the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty emphasized to Kaag the urgent need to ensure the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid into the coastal enclave.
On Thursday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and the UN humanitarian coordinator for Gaza, Sigrid Kaag, discussed the crisis in Gaza and called for unimpeded entry to alleviate the situation.

The two officials met in Doha to discuss the issue during the minister’s visit to Qatar, which included discussions on the progress of ceasefire negotiations in Gaza.
According to a statement from the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty emphasized to Kaag the urgent need to ensure the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid into the coastal enclave.
He also stressed the importance of overcoming the challenges and obstacles hindering the entry of vital goods.
On numerous occasions, Cairo has accused Israel of preventing or hindering shipments of medicine, food and fuel to the area, which has been under attack for nearly 10 months.
For his part, Kaag stressed the importance of coordination with Egypt, given its role as a mediator in the crisis and its border with Gaza.
Yesterday, the head of Egyptian diplomacy was received by the emir of Qatar, Chief Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, with whom he discussed joint efforts to push for a ceasefire there.
A foreign ministry statement said the visitor also met separately to discuss the issue with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
During both meetings, the parties agreed on the urgency of achieving an immediate ceasefire in the coastal enclave and ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid to meet the needs of the Palestinian people, the statement said.
Four days ago, Egyptian, Qatari and Israeli negotiators met in Rome to discuss an updated proposal for a temporary cessation of fighting and prisoner exchange between the latter country and Palestinian militias.
The Egyptian press reported that the talks were complicated in recent hours by Israeli attacks on Beirut and Tehran. The latter killed Hamas’ top Hamas figure, Ismail Haniyeh, sparking a wave of condemnation in the region.
Egypt denounced Israel’s assassination policy, including that of Haniyeh, and criticized Israel’s escalation of attacks as threatening to provoke a general war.
